Are you excited for Super Bowl LII? Are you SO excited that you are ready to commemorate the event with a future little Patriots or Eagles fan in about nine months?! It turns out that a baby boom nine months after the Super Bowl is a real thing! The NFL looked into the spike in births in the hometowns of winning teams nine months after the Super Bowl when they created the “Super Bowl Babies” ad.
Here is the FUN “Super Bowl Babies’ ad video we are talking about:
“Data suggests 9 months after a Super Bowl victory, winning cities see a rise in births,” the ad claims. There is evidence that sports victories can cause spikes in birth rates in the city whose team won a big game. Boston saw a baby boom nine months after the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004. There was a baby boom in New Orleans after the Saints won the 2010 Super Bowl.
So, are you going to have the next Super Bowl baby? I guess that all depends on how cozy you feel on game day 😉 but it also depends on a little science. We have taken a bit of the guesswork out of it for you by sharing this handy dandy fertility tracker.
It turns out that if your fertility window is between 1/30-2/9, and your cycles are fairly regular (and between 27-31 days) you could have yourself a Super Bowl baby. And that Super Bowl baby would be here just around Halloween (newborn football costume anyone?)
Now that you know if you can get pregnant on Super Bowl Sunday, why don’t we take a look at past Super Bowls to see if maybe you already have a Super Bowl baby? We’ve checked the stats over the last 5 years to see what due date would line up with each Super Bowl. Check out the chart below and let us know if you already have a Super Bowl baby at home!
